Formed in 1978, Duran Duran has been one of the most prolific bands to come out of Birmingham, England.  With 14 albums under their belt, the band has, for the most part, managed to stay together in their entirety, switching up some duties along the way.  The evolution of synth-pop/new wave music is abundantly represented in the band's discography.  With the release of last year’s Paper Gods, the band has embarked on an extensive tour in support of that new material.  Sunday night’s set at the Smoothie King Center marked the first time the band has played in New Orleans in almost ten years.  They last played at Voodoo, back in 2006.  Sunday night's show was a visual spectacle and the band tackled material from nine of their fourteen albums, concentrating on Paper Gods and both self-titled albums.  While it may not have been the biggest surprise guest appearance at a Jazz Fest show this year, Nile Rodgers, who had played with Chic earlier, came out and joined the band for a couple of tunes as he had been doing throughout the tour.
